For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance\u2014now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant<\/p>\n
As I begin to read through the early verses of this chapter, I am once again reminded of all the detail that was necessary in the arrangement of the temple.\u00a0 The blueprint.\u00a0 The order of preparation, placement of the ark and Aaron’s staff, the stone tablets and incense.\u00a0 Every thing in it’s place. Perfect ?
\nOnly then could the high priest enter the holy place, but only once a year.\u00a0 There to make atonement for the sins of the people.
\nEven today, construction of a Jewish synagogue is aligned so when people stand for prayer, they will be facing east
\nAll this effort for a perfect sacrifice.\u00a0 Man’s attempt to atone for his sins. Far from perfect
\nIn Matthew chapter 27 v50, we read that at the moment that Jesus died, the curtain of the temple was torn in two pieces.\u00a0 The separation between God and man was removed.\u00a0 The ultimate and perfect sacrifice was Jesus on our behalf.
\nEach and every year. the high priest had to complete all the ceremonies in order to present a (not perfect) sacrifice on our behalf.\u00a0 But Jesus, v24 , did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God\u2019s presence.\u00a0\u00a0 Not as the high priest, v25, to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year. He entered once and for all to atone for us, v28,\u00a0 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.<\/p>\n
